It began with
the work itself.
A search for a handcrafted clutch became a small house of objects made to be carried, remembered and kept.
Beyond the
storefront.
I was on vacation in Jaipur, Udaipur and the surrounding region, looking for a handcrafted clutch. My family already knew these pieces—one of my daughters owned one and loved it. My other daughter wanted one of her own. I assumed I would simply find another along the way.
It was not that simple. Shop after shop, I did not find what I had imagined. Eventually my search led me beyond the storefronts, to where the work itself was being done.
There, the handwork made the difference: surface shaped slowly, metal decorated with care, and objects carrying the quiet character of the people who made them. VARNA grew from the wish to bring that feeling into contemporary life.
